Live wire incident over for family

9:11 am on 15 February 2009

A family evacuated after a live high voltage power line fell on their house in Manukau is now back home.

The 220KV cable snapped on Friday, falling on several properties in Whetstone Road, Chapel Downs.

It was the second recent failure of major equipment for Transpower which had big power outages just over a week ago. About 74,000 customers were affected.

The company says contractors have been working overtime to repair the damage caused by the latest incident.

It says the rest of the work will be completed on Sunday and the power line will be replaced.

Transpower says it's still not known what caused the cable to fail.
