Police in North Canterbury say it could be some time before they locate the former partner of a woman found dead in a house in Waiau.
The body of Joanne Thompson, 46, was discovered in the house last Monday, after her two children were seen wandering outside.
Teams with police dogs have been searching near Waiau for her former partner, Ross Simon Fraser, 43.
Detective Sergeant Ross Barnett says there has been no sign of Mr Fraser since he was sighted by two farmers on Friday afternoon.
He says the area has deep gullies and dense vegetation.
Mr Fraser is described as dangerous and should not be approached.
