Teenagers charged over airgun shootings

3:03 pm on 17 March 2009

Two teenagers will appear in court next week on firearms charges after two women were shot with airguns on the North Shore.

Police arrested the pair after the separate firearms incidents on Monday night.

One woman received a minor wound to her leg when she was shot at 6pm in Beach Haven.

A second woman was shot two hours later in Glenfield and received a minor wound to her hand. Both were shot from a passing car.

Area Police Commander Les Patterson says there has been a proliferation of airguns coming into the country following the lifting of import restrictions.

Mr Patterson says parents need to understand there are legal restrictions on the ownership of such guns.

Two teenagers will appear in the North Shore District Court next week charged with two counts of recklessly discharging a firearm, and one charge each of unlawful possession of an airgun.
