Electricity system investment in Wellington, Wairarapa

The Electricity Commission is expected to approve two grid investment proposals that would improve electricity reliability in Wellington and Wairarapa.

The projects, proposed by Transpower, are worth nearly $27 million.

A new $9.5 million transformer would be installed at the Wilton substation, which the commission says is a relatively small upgrade.

Conductors on the existing Woodville to Mangamaire and Masterton line would also be replaced, at a cost of $17.4 million.

Work in both areas would be completed by 2011.
