Luxottica Group, which manufactures sunglasses and spectacle frames, is shrugging off the recession to spend $30 million expanding its stores in New Zealand over the next five years.

The company operates OPSM and Sunglass Hut stores.

The company's Australasia chief executive, Chris Beer, says the company is close to finalising a third brand under which it will open new stores. Existing businesses will also be upgraded

Mr Beer says the new stores will offer products in the lower to middle price ranges.

He says Luxottica employs more than 400 people and expects that to increase by between 200 and 300 staff over the next five years.
