Ethic Affairs minister defends select committee workshop

7:07 pm on 25 March 2009

Ethnic Affairs Minister Pansy Wong is defending a workshop being held to explain the political process for ethnic communities.

The workshop will assist with the preparation of select committee submissions on four law and order bills and is being delivered in English and Mandarin.

Mrs Wong says law and order is one of the biggest concerns for the ethnic communities.

The Labour Party says Mrs Wong is using the workshop to drum up support for the Government's law and order legislation and it is a direct effort to politicise the office of Ethnic Affairs.

But Mrs Wong says later workshops will cover other policy areas and they are simply a way to help people understand the select committee process.
