About 20 New Zealanders per month are paying to offset their carbon emissions when travelling.

More than 250 travellers visit the Carbon Zero website each month to calculate the size of their carbon footprint.

Of these, Carbon Zero says about 8% chose to offset it, which is about 20 people per month.

Business manager Mike Tournier says New Zealand's figure is higher than the travel industry average, which is about 3% of people who visit offsetting websites.
