Lion Nathan profit rises as takeover considered

Australasian brewer Lion Nathan has underlined its attraction as a takeover target, posting an increase of almost 7% in half-year profit.

The company made $A176 million in the six months to March as it increased sales of its higher-margin premium beers

It has also revised its full year profit forecast range, now now expecting to make between $A305 million and $A315 million.

Lion Nathan on Thursday requested a trading halt following news its majority shareholder, Kirin Holdings, plans to make a full takeover offer. The company is listed in both New Zealand and Australia.

It is based in Australia where it employs more than 1800 workers and has operations in New Zealand, employing more than 1400, according to its website. Its beer brands include Heineken, XXXX, Tooheys and Beck's.
