Judicial review of pylon decision not granted

5:14 am on 5 May 2009

The High Court has rejected an application for a judicial review of a decision by the Electricity Commission to allow a major transmission project.

The Commission approved Transpower's plan to build a 400KV transmission wire from south Waikato to Auckland last year.

An anti-pylon group, New Era Energy, sought the review on the basis that the decision was subject to flawed processes and external political influence.

But the High Court has rejected those claims and is contemplating costs against the lobby group.

A decision regarding the resource consent for the lines is still pending.
