Hide stumbles on cost of Auckland super-city

7:07 pm on 7 May 2009

Local Government Minister Rodney Hide has been forced to admit in Parliament that he does not know how much it will cost to implement the Auckland's super-city.

Labour MP Phil Tywford used Question Time on Thursday to pursue Mr Hide on the costs associated with the super-city plan.

After a series of questions, Mr Hide told MPs the Government has not got the costs of implementation.

But he says it will be miniscule compared with the $2 billion operating costs of local government in the region and the costs of not reforming Auckland's governance.

Mr Tywford says it is outrageous that the Government is ramming the proposal through under urgency when it cannot even tell ratepayers how much it will cost.
