RNZ wins radio, website awards

Radio New Zealand has dominated this year's New Zealand Radio Awards including metropolitan station of the year and best radio website.

At a ceremony at SkyCity in Auckland on Saturday, RNZ took out a total of 13 awards.

Radio New Zealand dominated the news section, with Nicola Wright winning best newsreader, while coverage of the US elections won the station's news team best coverage of a news story.

Christchurch reporter Katy Gosset was named radio journalist of the year.

Individual programmes that won include Morning Report and Sunday's Insight programme. The station also won the inaugural best radio website.

Radio New Zealand also won the best studio or outside broadcast recording for Salmonella Dub and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Best documentary went to Sir Edmund Hillary - A Tribute and best dramatic production was won by The Raft.

Jack Perkins was given the special recognition award for services to broadcasting.

In the music categories, RNZ won best music feature for North and South and the best recorded live music event for Exploring Antarctica.

For the second year in a row, Newstalk ZB's Paul Holmes won best talk or current affairs host - all markets, while the outstanding contribution to radio honour was posthumously awarded to Phil Armstrong.

Best regional station was More FM Northland and the provincial honour went to More FM Taupo.
