South Island crash leaves four injured

A collision between a car and a bus near the South Island alpine town of Makarora has left four people injured.

Both vehicles went off the road as a result of the crash which happened on Saturday afternoon on the road between Wanaka and Haast.

The bus was travelling towards Wanaka and carrying 44 passengers.

Two helicopters and four ambulances were at the scene.

Three people received moderate injuries and a fourth is being treated for minor wounds.

Meanwhile, power lines in Fielding have been repaired after a three-car crash about 1am on Saturday.

The cars collided near Bunnythorpe, leaving power lines dangling over a rail track.
