A vehicle breakdown has added to the traffic gridlock heading out of Wellington on Wednesday night.
A motorbike and two vehicles crashed about 6pm near the Ngauranga Gorge turnoff on State Highway 2.
Another vehicle has since broken down near the crash scene, adding to the delay for motorists.
Police Inspector Paul Jermy says the "huge volume" of traffic extends back to the Aotea Quay motorway on-ramp, but is slowly clearing.
