Tsvangirai pleads for Western support

6:29 pm on 11 June 2009

Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has urged Western donors to judge his government on its actions now, rather than on past actions by President Robert Mugabe.

Mr Tsvangirai, who is in Washington to meet United States President Barack Obama on Friday, admits the pace of political and economic reform in Zimbabwe has been slow, but he has appealed to the US to support his government.

Mr Tsvangirai says Zimbabwe is undergoing a process of transformation towards democracy.
