The Automobile Association is warning motorists of a range of road closures due to snow on Thursday night.

MetService says foul weather has been forecast over the next few days, with snow or cold rain to many parts of the country, and possible thunderstorms for the top half of the North Island

Road closures on Thursday night include State Highway 8 between Roxburgh and Alexandra, State Highway 6 between Cromwell and Queenstown, as well as the Lindis Pass and Haast Pass.

Also closed by snow is State Highway 65 in Buller. Vehicle restrictions apply at Arthur's Pass.

MetService is also warning of snow on Milford Road, Porters Pass and Lewis Pass.

On the East Coast of the North Island, the road is closed by a landslip at Tokomaru Bay.
