Indian Ocean rowing crew found

Four New Zealand rowers competing in a charity race across the Indian Ocean, have been found safe and well.

The four-man crew is taking part in the Indian Ocean Rowing Race, which set off from Western Australia in April.

The Rowing for Prostate team was located by the coastguard at 1am (NZ time) on Friday, 300 nautical miles from the finish at Mauritius.

The team had not been heard from since last Saturday after losing contact with their support team for several days when their GPS and satellite phone malfunctioned.

Michelle Staples says her husband Pete Staples and his crew were in good spirits when they finally made contact with the coastguard.

Mrs Staples says the rescue is a welcome relief.
