TV3 says it won't screen ads on Sunday morning

TV3 says it will not risk breaking the law again by screening television commercials on a Sunday morning.

The company has escaped a financial penalty after it was found guilty of breaching the Broadcasting Act by showing commercials on three Sunday mornings during the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

TV3 argued it complied with Broadcasting Act rules by transmitting from a foreign country to other countries as well as New Zealand.

The company says the law is outdated and it will lobby to have it changed.

But Rick Friesen, who was TV3's chief operating officer at the time, says the company will not test the courts again.
