A family owned Marlborough winery has taken away the top prize at the main Australian competition for boutique wineries.

Blind River's 2007 pinot noir won the Association of Australian Boutique Winemakers' Dan Murphy trophy.

The winery is run by sisters Debbie Sutton, Susie Feickert and Wendy Jones.

New Zealand wineries made up only 12% of entries at the event but took nearly 30% of the awards.
