TAB betting down

The New Zealand Racing Board says there was a significant decline in betting over the past year due to the recession.

To minimise the effects of that, the board is reducing the base amount it pays to some hotels and clubs with TAB facilities.

The board announced in March that it needs to make savings of $10 million per year and a review of the commission fee structure is the first step.

The board says the changes to the base commission will affect 113 of the 397 hotels and clubs with TAB facilities but will not have an impact on stand-alone TAB outlets.
