Police to accompany boy's body to home marae

3:30 pm on 27 July 2009

A Maori liaison officer will accompany the body of a teenage boy killed by a police car at the weekend, when it is returned to his home marae near Kaeo.

Willie More hopes that can happen on Monday evening, following a post-mortem in Auckland.

Rawiri Wilson, 16, died, and a friend, also 16, was injured when the pair were hit by a police car as they walked along State Highway 1 near Ohaeawai at 11.30pm on Saturday.

Mr More says the officers are devastated by the accident. He says the officer who was driving is especially distraught and is receiving support.

Three separate investigations are under way: two by the police and one by the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
