The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says New Zealanders who travel overseas face a high chance that their plans will be disrupted by swine flu and they should make preparations for such an event.
At least 60 New Zealanders have been in quarantine around the world since early May because of swine flu, and one person is still quarantined in Vietnam.
Ministry spokesperson Deboral Geels says people should register on its SafeTravel website and have comprehensive travel insurance and a cellphone.
Student tells of quarantine in China
A Massey University student who was quarantined in China on suspicion of having swine flu says his main concern was about losing money on flights.
Will Bamford, 21, spent a day in quarantine in a Beijing hospital three weeks ago after heat sensors at Beijing airport indicated he had a temperature.
Mr Bamford says it may have been the temperature difference between Mongolia and Beijing that caused the reading.
He did not have swine flu and says he spent an anxious 22 hours waiting to have this confirmed.
His father says his son was lucky to get access to a phone so he could phone home about his predicament.
