Waipu businesses hurt by telco strike

A number of Waipu businesses say Telecom's industrial problems are hurting the local economy.

A phone fault in the township, south of Whangarei, has left several homes and businesses without phone services over the past week.

Greg Mitchell, who runs the Waipu Cove resort, says he lost phone, internet and EFTPOS services on Monday last week and was not reconnected until Tuesday night.

He says the week without phones has cost him a number of lucrative bookings: Telecom has offered a refund about $20.
