One of the first people charged with wearing gang insignia in Wanganui has been fined and had his Mongrel Mob patch confiscated.
Four gang members appeared in the Wanganui District Court on Tuesday charged under the city's new gang patch bylaw which came into effect on 1 September.
Peter Nahona, 45, who was arrested on 2 September, pleaded guilty and was fined $500 and court costs of $130 and ordered to forfeit his gang insignia.
The first person arrested under the bylaw, John Ratana, 21, who was wearing Tribesman insignia, has been remanded at large until 22 September.
Brett Beansley was arrested for wearing a Mongrel Mob emblem and has been remanded at until the same date.
A fourth gang member, Bryan Moore, was arrested on Monday for wearing a Hell's Angels T-shirt and will next appear in court on 15 September.
