Supermarket workers protest over pay

5:08 pm on 12 September 2009

About 60 workers employed by supermarket chain Foodstuffs protested outside Northlands Pak n Save in Christchurch on Saturday afternoon over a wage dispute.

The National Distribution Union says Foodstuffs' South Island distribution centre workers are paid $10.39 - $12.14 per hour, $5 less than employees at competitor Progressive Enterprises.

Southern regional secretary Paul Watson says the workers are frustrated with the lack of progress after six months of negotiations.

Mr Watson says there will be more protests outside South Island Foodstuffs supermarkets.
