A magnitude 5.9 quake struck in southeastern Peru on Wednesday, close to Bolivia's capital of La Paz.
The US Geological Survey reports that the quake was at a depth of 258 kilometres, about 162 km northwest of La Paz.
The quake was not felt in La Paz, nor in Peru's capital of Lima, people in those cities said.
There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
