Students fined after Nazi-themed party dress

Several Lincoln University students who dressed as Nazis and Jewish prisoners at an Oktoberfest function have been fined and had some of their results withheld.

The 15 students pleaded guilty at a disciplinary hearing to bringing discredit on the university.

The students must pay a $200 fine, visit the Holocaust Museum in Wellington at their own expense and write a 2000-word essay.

Two students who wore the most offensive T-shirts will also complete 150 hours of community service for the university.

University vice chancellor Roger Field says the penalties will expose the students to the horrors of the Holocaust and enable them to reflect on their completely inappropriate behaviour.
