Campaign to keep NZ beef on Taiwan's menu

Meat marketers are launching a campaign in Taiwan to remind consumers of the merits of eating New Zealand meat, to help fend off the threat of increased US imports.

Taiwan banned imports of American beef after the discovery of Mad Cow Disease in the US in 2003.

The ban was later relaxed, but until now all beef from the US had to be boneless, giving New Zealand beef an increased market share.

Meat and Wool New Zealand chief executive Scott Champion says Taiwan is now New Zealand's fourth most valuable beef market, and the threat of increased imports from the US is very real.
