The mother of murdered toddler Nia Glassie has had appeals against her manslaughter conviction and sentence dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
Following a trial in Rotorua, Lisa Kuka was jailed for nine years for failing to protect her daughter from violence and failing to provide timely medical attention.
The three-year old girl died in Auckland's Starship Hospital in August 2007 as a result of brain injuries.
The toddler was spun in a tumble drier and on a rotary washing line until she fell off, and was also dropped on her head by adults performing wrestling moves.
Kuka said the jury's verdicts were unreasonable and were not supported by the evidence, and that the sentence was excessive in all the circumstances.
However, the Court of Appeal has dismissed both appeals. The judgment document says the sentence needed to be stern and cannot be challenged.
Kuka's former partner, Wiremu Curtis, and his brother Michael Curtis were convicted of Nia Glassie's murder and are serving life sentences.
In November, the court dismissed an appeal by Wiremu Curtis over his conviction.
