US stocks flat

stocks are flat on Wall Street where investors are concerned about companies and nations being able to meet their debt commitments.

The Dow Jones Index was up 10 points on Wednesday to 10,296. The Nasdaq Composite was down 9 points to 2180.

Earlier in Europe: the FTSE in London was down 0.4%, the DAX in Frankfurt was down 0.7% and the CAC-40 in Paris was down 0.7%.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei was down 136 points to 10,005.

The Australian 200 Index was down 33 points to 4638.

The NZX 50 index was down 10 points to close at 3128 on turnover of $66 million.

At 6.25am on Thursday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 70.97 US cents, 78.48 Australian cents, 43.76 pence, 62.36 yen and 0.4828 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 63.80.
