NZ market closes up

The benchmark NZX 50 index rose 15 points, or 0.5%, to close at 3132 on turnover of $62 million on Wednesday.

Rises included Fletcher Building 5 cents to $7.74, Telecom 1 cent to $2.39, Contact Energy 20 cents to $5.90, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare 5 cents to $3.38, and The Warehouse up 4 cents to $4.06.

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $3.27.

Falls included Sky Network Television 2 cents to $4.93, NZX 10 cents to $8.70, New Zealand Oil and Gas 3 cents to $1.63.

AMP fell 7 cents to $7.68 as it lifted its offer by 16 percent to A$6.22 a share for Axa Asia Pacific Holdings on Tuesday.

Allied Farmers is on a trading halt as it finalises the conditions of the purchase of Hanover's loan book. It last traded at 19 cents

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was down 10 points, or 0.2%, to 4664 mid-afternoon.

The NZ dollar was trading at 71.78 US cents, 79.90 Australian, 44.17 pence, 64.17 yen and 0.4934 euro. The TWI stood at 64.97.

In Australia, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index closed down 11.6 points, or 0.25%, at 4661.9 points,
