Complaints about coverage of Maori issues rejected by BSA

Updated at 11:51am on 26 December 2009

The Broadcasting Standards Authority has rejected two complaints about television coverage of Maori issues.

The BSA received complaints about a satirical sketch on Maori TV's proposed Rugby World Cup coverage, and other complaints about an item on the process of chosing a Maori flag to be flown on Waitangi Day.

It found that an item on TV3 about rugby coverage was legitimate satire and was not meant to be taken seriously.

The BSA has also declined to uphold complaints about a TV One Breakfast interview on the flag when only one point of view was expressed.

The BSA ruled that while the only perspective offered was that the process was a waste of money, opposing viewpoints were shown on a TV One news item the previous evening.
