The identity of a 28-year-old man accused of trying to kill a policeman in south Auckland by shooting him three times remains under wraps for the time being.
The judge told the court he wanted to lift name suppression of the man accused of shooting Constable Jeremy Snow, 28, in the arm and leg while he was on duty in Papatoetoe in December
However the man's lawyer, Ish Jayanandan, has lodged an appeal, saying the accused's mother is returning to the country on Wednesday and he wants time to tell her what happened.
The judge told Mrs Jayanandan that unless she finds a better reason to continue name suppression he will allow the name to be revealed for the sake of open justice.
The accused has been remanded in custody until Wednesday, and no plea has been entered.
