Rebound on Wall Street

Stocks on Wall Street have rebounded on stronger-than-expected US manufacturing data in January, which followed strong manufacturing data from China, Australia and the euro zone.

The Dow Jones index on Monday was up 103 points to 10,170 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 17 points at 2164.

In Europe: the FTSE 100 index in London was up 1.1%, the CAC-40 in Paris was up 0.6% and the DAX in Frankfurt was up 0.8%.

Earlier, in Toyko, the Nikkei was up 7 points to 10,205.

The Australian 200 Index was down 45 points to 4524.

The NZX 50 was down 14 points on Monday to close at 3151 on turnover of $34 million.

At 8.30am on Tuesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 70.81 US cents, 79.60 Australian cents, 44.36 pence, 64.19 yen and 5084 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 65.22.
