Farmers respond to Northland feed shortage

6:02 am on 4 February 2010

North Island farmers are responding to the plight of Northland farmers hurt by drought, with offers of stock feed.

Federated Farmers has reactivated its 0800 drought line, so that farmers with spare feed can contact those in need.

Parched conditions and lack of feed have forced farmers in Northland to sell stock and cut milk production. Some have had to stop milking altogether.

Federated Farmers says 37 farmers so far, mainly in the North Island, have joined the register, offering feed.

The rural support trust says it's a good response.
