President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has told crowds at a official rally in Tehran that Iran is now a nuclear state.

At an event to mark the 31st anniversary of the revolution, he said Iran had produced its first stock of 20% enriched uranium.

Mr Ahmadinejad said Iran will soon treble its output of nuclear fuel, but was not seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

The BBC reports the anniversary of the revolution on 11 February 1987, is the most important day in Iran's political calendar.
