Telecom plans to ramp up marketing of Tivo

Telecom says it will ramp up its marketing of Tivo, the set top box entertainment system after disappointing Christmas sales.

The box, which is a freeview decoder and allows owners to download entertainment from the internet, is sold exclusively through Telecom.

Telecom won't say how many Tivo boxes it has sold since its launch in early December, but Alan Gourdie, the chief executive of Telecom Retail, admits the company's Christmas targets were missed.

Telecom's chief executive Paul Reynolds played down the disappointing sales.

He says Telecom's real marketing focus in the last quarter has been on fixed line, on broadband and mobile, and there have been some solid results this quarter.

But Mr Reynolds says the company's attention will be turned to Tivo in the coming year.
