Changes recommended for Crown Research Institutes

The Government is to receive a report this week recommending changes to the way the country's eight scientific research organisations do business.

The report - the result of a three-month review - will focus on how the Crown Research Institutes can contribute more to the economy.

The chairman of the review group, Neville Jordan, says the panel has drafted between 25 and 30 recommendations.

It has considered how agencies can collaborate, ways of improving funding, and how bureaucracy can be reduced, he says, but the report does not recommend restructuring or merging any of the institutes.
