2:25 pm on 22 February 2010

There have been angry outbursts at the court appearance of a 22-year-old man charged with burglary following the killing of a Christchurch woman.

Gaynor White, 62, died in her home in the Port Hills suburb of Huntsbury between Thursday morning and Friday afternoon.

Police believe Mrs White was killed during a burglary at her home.

Shaun Timothy Skilling was on Monday charged in the Christchurch District Court with burglary and unlawfully taking Mrs White's car. He also faces two other unrelated charges.

A group of people seated in the public gallery sobbed throughout the brief court appearance and some shouted angrily at the young man as he left the dock.

Mr Skilling was remanded in custody without plea for two weeks. Police say further charges may be laid in relation to Mrs White's death.
