NZ Govt agencies involved in Interpol operation

A number of New Zealand Government agencies have been involved in an international operation targeting illegal trade in traditional medicines containing wildlife products.

The operation lasted a month and was co-ordinated by Interpol. Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry were involved.

Passenger terminals in main centres around New Zealand and the international mail centre were targets.

Customs says some of the medicines seized contained ingredients derived from tigers, bears and rhinos. Investigations are continuing.
