United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been in Haiti to inspect what has been described as the most challenging emergency his organisation has ever dealt with.
Two months after the 7 magnitude earthquake that hit the island, hundreds of thousands of people are still without adequate shelter and sanitation.
The BBC reports Mr Ban stressed providing shelter was the top priority as he made his second visit to the stricken country.
He says the visit will give him a much clearer picture of the situation, ahead of an aid donors' conference at the end of the month.
Mr Ban first visited Haiti soon after the quake, which killed more than 200,000 people.
During his latest, one-day, visit, Mr Ban toured a makeshift camp of more than 40,000 people and also met with Haiti's President Rene Preval.
Speaking at a news conference, Mr Ban acknowledged that Haiti needs money for schools, infrastructure, roads, ports and electricity.
