Breast implant recalled

3:01 pm on 5 April 2010

Plastic surgeons say it's unlikely many New Zealand women have the type of breast implant that's been recalled overseas.

Implants made by French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) have been recalled, because they reportedly contain unauthorised silicone gel and are twice as likely to rupture as other brands.

New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons president Howard Klein says the implants are marketed here, but he's not aware of any surgeons who use them.
