Bus driver in court on drink-driving charges

3:14 pm on 8 April 2010

A bus driver has appeared in the Hastings District Court on two drink-driving related charges.

In January, police in Hastings stopped a Go Bus on the outskirts of the city after passengers expressed concerns about the driver's behaviour.

He returned a positive breath test and was taken to the police station for a blood test.

Carl Hughes, 50, faces a charge of driving a bus with a blood-alcohol level almost four times the legal limit, and another charge of dangerous driving.

No plea was entered in court and he was remanded to re-appear in May.
