Opening of trial over hit-and-run death delayed

3:09 pm on 12 April 2010

The opening day of the High Court trial of six men charged over the hit-and-run death of a woman in a South Auckland carpark was been delayed by legal arguments on Monday.

Joanne Wang, 39, was hit in June 2008 by a four wheel drive vehicle she was chasing after her handbag was snatched from her car.

Mrs Wang was struck in the Westfield shopping centre carpark in Manukau in front of her young son.

Christopher Shadrock, 23, is charged with Joanne Wang's murder, stealing her bag and stealing the vehicle that hit her.

Five other men face charges including theft and being an accessory after her death by disposing of the vehicle.

The six accused were in the High Court in Auckland for pre-trial legal arguments on Monday.

A seventh man faces a theft charge in relation to the incident, but is not part of the High Court trial.
