Maori flavour for NZ menu at Shanghai World Expo

Sausages seasoned with pikopiko, horopito and kawakawa will be on offer when a Maori chef goes to the Shanghai World Expo in July.

Waatea News reports Charles Pipi Tukukino Royal will host gourmet dinners for distributors and hospitality industry officials coinciding with a visit by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Maori Affairs in September.

As well as high-end sausages developed in a joint venture with Dunninghams, Mr Royal will serve Maori kai, and wine and beer from businesses hoping to gain a foothold in China.

As well as traditional herbs, Mr Royal says he's made a hot piripiri sausage for more adventurous eaters, which uses a blend of horopito, kawakawa and cayene pepper.
