A woman has been arrested after the knife-point robbery of a taxi driver in Palmerston North.

Police say the driver picked up a couple from Ihle street in the Parkland area around 10.30pm on Thursday.

They asked to be taken to the Westbrook area on the far side of the city.

Once there, police say the woman threatened the driver with a knife before stealing his wallet and running away.

A member of the public tried to intervene, but she got away.

A woman, 32, will appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Friday charged with aggravated robbery.

Police say her companion is not being charged.
