40,000 houses insulated under Govt scheme

Nearly 40,000 homes in New Zealand have been retro-fitted with insulation subsidised by the Government since July last year.

In March alone, latest figures show, almost 4000 homes were retrofitted under the Warm Up New Zealand scheme.

Energy Minister Gerry Brownlee says the Government is committed to reaching the scheme's four-year target of insulating 180,000 homes.

He says families who live in the properties benefit from drier and healthier homes, and the economy also benefits because most of the insulation material that's used is manufactured locally.
