Police in Auckland have arrested nearly 50 second-hand dealers for selling stolen goods.

A range of items were seized including cash, jewellery, drugs, electronic goods and about $300,000 worth of watches.

Police say they have been investigating more than 100 dealers over several months and found 94 cases where people were breaking the law.

Detective Inspector Greg Cramer says several will face serious charges under the Crimes Act for receiving stolen goods.

He says nearly 18,000 burglaries were recorded in the Auckland region in one year.
