Anzac Day crash survivor conscious and talking

3:01 pm on 29 April 2010

The surviving member of the four-man crew aboard the Air Force helicopter that crashed on Anzac day is conscious and talking about what he remembers of the fatal accident.

Sergeant Stevin Creeggan is in a serious but stable condition in Wellington Hospital after the Iroquois helicopter crashed near Pukerua Bay north of Wellington early on Sunday morning.

Though suffering from chest, spinal and leg injuries Sgt Creeggan is expected to make a full recovery.

His uncle, Bill Gregory, says his nephew is talking about the aftermath of the accident but has not been able to reveal what caused the crash.

Mr Gregory says Sgt Creeggan is aware that the rest of his crew have died and is wondering why he should have been spared.

His nephew's recovery has been better than expected, Mr Gregory says, but he is suffering from a sense of loss.
