Spending on Mothers Day this year was higher than last year according to the largest eftpos company, Paymark.
Chief executive Simon Tong says $52.2 million was spent at restaurants on Mother's Day and the week before - 10.4% more than last year.
Gift stores also benefited: purchases there was $11.89 million, an increase of 10% on the same period last year.
Mr Tong says shoppers also spent more on flowers, but there was little spending on jewellery, books or even cards this Mother's Day.
