Police investigate sexual assault in Tokoroa

5:39 pm on 12 May 2010

Police are trying to find four men they say sexually assaulted a woman on a street in the South Waikato town of Tokoroa.

They say the 23-year-old was walking along Kelso Street at about 3am on Sunday, when a ute stopped and two men got off, chased the woman and tackled her to the ground. Two more men from the vehicle helped to hold her down.

Police say it appears the woman's screams helped scare the attackers off, along with a light being turned on at a neighbouring property and the presence of an elderly man walking down the street.

Officers are looking for information about the matt black ute, which has chrome mag wheels and a loud exhaust.

Police hope the elderly man who was walking in the area will also come forward.
